Technology-Supported Curriculum
Summary
Futurelab, supported by the QCDA (Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency) is carrying out research to support the development of guidance for schools on using technology across the curriculum. There are new opportunities in the curriculum for both primary and secondary schools to increase the engagement, motivation and achievement of learners through using technology. The project seeks to move on from viewing technology as the sole responsibility of ICT departments to planning for joined-together technology use across the entire curriculum experience at all key stages.

Futurelab has been gathering examples of innovative practices using technology to enhance the design of the curriculum in primary and secondary schools, and conducting a rapid review of the most recently published research on technology in schools. The findings of this work are being used to create a research reference guide and a set of resources and guidance for schools. The project looks at a range of factors which affect the way schools develop the use of technology in the curriculum, including:
- teacher professional development
- curricular content
- access to learning resources
- digital literacy and creativity
- duration and location of learning
The final resources will be available from the QCDA in 2010.
